adstpall.sh stuks for long time when come to adcmctl.sh stop ????

    Hi,

when I stop applications services using adstpall.sh. It stops all services nicely but when it comes to adcmctl.sh, It takes very long time to respond like if the script is hanged. Many time I used to abort the adstpall script and it returns- exits with status 130.

    1) I have checked all possible logfiles and didn't see any error if it had thrown. But it didn't

    2) In a different session I tried adcmctl.sh stop while the other session was stuck in adstpall.sh @ adcmctl.sh stop. even this didn't help ?

    3) I manualy killed the CM processes and restarted all services, it went fine but again when stoping the response is same.

Does anybody have idea how to deal with this? what are the other possible thing I should do or look into ?

    Please suggest.......

If this is a test instance :

    Shutdown abort the CM..
shutdown other apps services and restart the DB
(this would also clear out all locks hed on the db side)

    run cmclean.sql followed by commit.

Then start and shutdown the CM ; See if you still face issues.

How long is it taking for the CM to go down normally. Have you left it for 20 mins , and seen if its going down.
Also check the ICM Log file and alert log while the CM is going down to see if there are any entries there.

after letting it go down for 15 mins , please provide the output of :

    ps -ef | grep FNDSM
    ps -ef | grep FNDLIBR

Diagnose if CM is taking long time to go down.

I left this even for an hour and it's not going down.
I didn't see anything in ICM log then I moved to alert log and fired tail -f alert_PROD.log and below are the contents I recieved

    Thu Feb 23 19:09:15 2012
    Undo Segment 12 Onlined
    Thu Feb 23 19:32:10 2012
ORACLE Instance PROD - Can not allocate log, archival required
    Thu Feb 23 19:32:10 2012
    ARCH: Connecting to console port...
Thread 1 cannot allocate new log, sequence 26
    All online logs needed archiving
    Current log# 2 seq# 25 mem# 0: /u02/dbtier/proddata/log02a.dbf
    Current log# 2 seq# 25 mem# 1: /u02/dbtier/proddata/log02b.dbf

    Then @ sqlprompt I fired
    Sql> ALTER system archive log current;

and like a magic in other session the adcmctl.sh stoped the CM's with status 0.

To dig further I checked the @dbnode

    SQL> archive log list
    Database log mode Archive Mode
    Automatic archival Disabled
    Archive destination /u02/dbtier/proddb/9.2.0/dbs/arch
    Oldest online log sequence 25
Next log sequence to archive 26
    Current log sequence 26

Archival is not happening automatic as I noticed, It is Disabled.

    I Enabled it using
    SQL> ALTER SYSTEM ARCHIVE LOG START;

    SQL> archive log list
    Database log mode Archive Mode
    Automatic archival Enabled
    Archive destination /u02/dbtier/proddb/9.2.0/dbs/arch
    Oldest online log sequence 25
Next log sequence to archive 26
    Current log sequence 26

NOW CM is going down like water. let's see how long it goes

Thanks Hemant for your prompt replies and 10* guidance.
    Cheers !

    Red face

    Puneet,

this will only enable automatic archiving till the time current instance is running. Once you will bounce your database, automatic archiving will again be disabled. For permanent changes, you will have to set the parameter 'LOG_ARCHIVE_START=TRUE' in the init file or if using spfile then, give
    sql> alter system set log_archive_start=true scope=spfile;

    to make permanent changes

    bye
