    ADSplice Usage for OATM Enabled and Non OATM Enabled Tablespaces

    A new product needs to be Incorporated / Registered in Oracle Applications. This is done via a patch which first requires you to splice / register the new product , after which the patching would take place. The splicing is done as per the instructions of the Readme which comes with the patch meant to incorporate the new product.

    Note that Installation of a product is done using adlicmgr , which is diiferent from registering a product done using adsplice.

    AD Splicer

    AD Splicer performs the same product registration function as License Manager. However, it registers off-cycle products (those that are released between release update packs) as active in your system. This process of "splicing" modifies the APPL_TOP and database so that AutoPatch and AD Administration recognize the off-cycle product as a valid product for a specific release.

    AD Splicer Control Files

    There are two kinds of AD Splicer control files: product definition and product configuration. You must customize the product configuration file, then copy it and the product definition file to APPL_TOP/admin before you run AD Splicer.

    Product Definition Files

    There are two product definition files per spliced product: <prod>prod.txt and <prod>terr.txt. These files define the product and the associated language information and must not be edited.

    For example, for a the product zsa , we will have 2 files zsaprod.txt and zsaterr.txt.

    Product Configuration (newprods.txt)

    The newprods.txt file acts as a template to define necessary parameters for a spliced product.
    This file needs to be edited

    FOR TABLESPACES POST OATM

    for adding a product by the name zsa , we would need to create the respective schema

    The following is an example of the product configuration file for adding a product by the name zsa:
    newprods.txt

    product=zsa
    base_product_top=*APPL_TOP*
    oracle_schema=zsa
    sizing_factor=100
    main_tspace=APPS_TS_TX_DATA
    index_tspace=APPS_TS_TX_IDX
    temp_tspace=TEMP
    default_tspace=APPS_TS_TX_DATA

    SQL> create user ZSA identified by ZSA default tablespace APPS_TS_TX_DATA quota unlimited on tablespace APPS_TS_TX_DATA;
    User created.

    SQL> grant connect,resource to ZSA;
    Grant succeeded.

    FOR TABLESPACES NOT MIGRATED TO THE OATM MODEL

    For Non OATM Tablespaces , we will have to first create the tablepsaces for the new product.
    for adding a product by the name zsa ,
    we would need to create 2 Tablespaces ZSAD and ZSAX and create the respective schema

    The following is an example of the product configuration file (for adding procuct - zsa)

    newprods.txt

    product=zsa
    base_product_top=*APPL_TOP*
    oracle_schema=zsa
    sizing_factor=100
    main_tspace=ZSAD
    index_tspace=ZSAX
    temp_tspace=TEMP
    default_tspace=ZSAD

    SQL> create tablespace ZSAD datafile '....' size 100M;

    Tablespace created.

    SQL> create tablespace ZSAX datafile '....' size 200M;

    SQL> create user ZSA identified by ZSA default tablespace ZSAD quota unlimited on tablespace ZSAD ;

    User created.

    SQL> grant connect,resource to ZSA;

    Grant succeeded.

    Explanation :

    product = used as the short name of the new product.A directory is created under the $APPL_TOP with this name
    base_product_top = the default value is *APPL_TOP* to denote that you are adding a product underneath the $APPL_TOP
    oracle_schema = the name of the schema created in the database a new Applications user by this name is created
    sizing_factor= 100 (default)
    main_tspace= this is where you want the tables stored
    index_tspace = this is where to create indexes
    temp_tspace = this is the tablespace to use for temporary tables/data
    default_tspace = usually the same as the main_tspace

    Example : To Invoke asdplice for zsa product :

    1) Copy These files at the $APPL_TOP/admin

    zsaprod.txt
    zsaterr.txt
    newprods.txt

    2 cd $APPL_TOP/admin
    adsplice (run this on command prompt)

    When asked to enter the name of the AD Splicer control file, enter newprods.txt

    3 Verify that the product has been correctly created in the database.

    From within SQL*Plus, logged in as APPS, run the following:

    SQL> col application_short_name format a10
    SQL>select a.application_id,application_short_name,status from apps.fnd_application a,apps.fnd_product_installations b
    where a.application_id=b.application_id and application_short_name='ZSA';
